At national level, livestock and meat are the key export products for Niger in the era of the creation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The corridors targeted by the project (Niger-Burkina-Côte d'Ivoire, Niger-Benin) are subject to numerous hassles and obstacles to livestock trade. The action remains relevant to the national strategy of the 3N initiative "Les Nigeriens nourrissent les Nigériens" (Nigeriens feed Nigeriens), Niger's Economic and Social Development Plan (PDES) and the Sustainable Livestock Development Strategy (SDDEL 2035), which aims to increase meat production by 45%.

The project aims to strengthen the production capacity of quality livestock through a network of fatteners, and to support the marketing of livestock and meat on Niger's two main livestock export corridors. The best practices resulting from the project's implementation will be replicated by the Livestock, meat, hides and skins trade association (IP/BVCP) on other corridors, to ensure that livestock farming makes a greater contribution to the national economy and benefits its member players.
