The West Africa Task Force to fight illegal fishing along the ECOWAS maritime zone is holding its 13th Meeting in Cotonou, Benin. The three-day meeting brings together FCWC Member States' Directors of Fisheries, national Heads of Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance (MCS), the WATF Technical Team (comprising the FCWC Secretariat, Stop Illegal Fishing and TMT, stakeholders, and observers - to share national-level updates, discuss issues relating to their regional-level cooperation in fisheries, and to develop the 2023 operational and capacity development work plans.

Along with the workplans, and under the tripartite MoU (ECOWAS – FCWC – SRFC) the Regional Economic Community shows an increasing interest on issues along the maritime waters of its 12 coastal member countries, specifically exploring ways and means to operate the RFBs as technical arms to make sure countries will reap maximum benefits of their fisheries resources.
